Photodamage

How do you repair photodamaged carpets?

Carpets and other valuable works of art should be protected from direct sunlight.

Failure to do this will result in complete or partial damage over time and thus a fading of the carpet color.

How do you repair such damage?

To remove the photodamage, our studio uses the surface smoothing method.

Since the light only reaches the top 1-2 mm of the carpet, the color only fades there and the wool underneath remains undamaged. With the help of a very sharp blade, we remove the top 1-2 mm, eliminating the fading. The appearance of the carpet is therefore back in its original state. This method can only be used a few times as the carpet will be about 1-2 mm thinner each time. For this reason, we recommend protecting the carpet from sun rays as much as possible.
